BIOPSIES

A skin biopsy involves sending a sample of skin to a laboratory for analysis in order to make a diagnosis. Dr. Prystowsky is proficient in a number of biopsy techniques, including curettage, superficial shaves, deep shaves, excisional biopsies and punch biopsies. After a biopsy, a patient’s sample is sent to a pathologist to determine whether any further action is needed. Dr. Prystowsky prefers to send tissue specimens to laboratories that include a photomicrograph with their analysis. She uses this information to decide an appropriate course of action. If further action is needed, Dr. Prystowsky is trained in many surgical treatment options.
